FBC is presently stationed at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – National Freshwater Fisheries Technology Center (BFAR-NFFTC) inside Central Luzon State University Compound in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.

FBC was created as a result of Administrative Order (AO) 21 series of 2005 or the Establishment of the Agricultural Biotechnology Center (ABC) of the Department of Agriculture (DA). This led to the creation of the three biotechnology centers for crops, livestock and fisheries.

The Center is envisioned as lead center in all fisheries biotechnology-related endeavors pursuing in the development and management of fisheries and aquatic resources in the Philippines. Its mission is to develop strong linkages/collaborations among fisheries biotechnology stakeholders towards the promotion, enhancement and improvement of fisheries biotechnology in the Philippines.

One of the activities of the FBC is the preliminary inventory of fisheries biotechnology researches in the country. Several inter-agency meetings were conducted to come up to formulate action plan for biotechnology for fisheries in the Philippines.

Technical Services:

  • Real-life work learning experience to students (graduate/undergraduate) to guide them in the transition from student to professionals
  • Research collaboration which will be an avenue for exchanging ideas, information, technology, and personnel in areas of mutual interest
  • Assistance to fisheries schools in the country in identifying thesis topics of students that are responsive to the needs of the industry. In addition, FBC experts will also be open to for thesis advisors/mentorship of the students
  • Technical assistance in the form of giving a scientific lecture to students or serving as a resource person for trainings, workshops and seminars
  • Access to DA-FBC information
