1st Governing Board Meeting for CY 2017 Held

Quezon City, April 18, 2017. The NFRDI held the 1st Governing Board (GB) Meeting to pave way for the review and approval of its programs, projects and budget for CY 2018. The meeting is the first of its four (4) scheduled meetings as it is the mandate of the GB to review the Institute's programs and provide guidance to meet is legal functions. This was the only second meeting of the GB since 2016. Atty. Benjamin F.S. Tabios, Jr. GB Secretary highlighted that inspite of their busy schedules, all of the Governing Board Members were present.

Major highlights were the approval of CY Porposed 2018 Programs and Budget which was institutionalized via the signing of Resolution No. 2017-01: Resolution approving the programs, activities and budget of the NFRDI for CY 2018 along with the affirmation of the NFRDI Plantilla. It can be recalled that NFRDI had been physically separated since 2001 and only this time did the Institute see the green light to proceed with the finalization of the plantilla of positions and subsequently submit the same to Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for funding.

In the presentation of NFRDI Accomplishments, NSAP was given a shot in the arm as GB Chairman Commodore Eduardo B Gongona, also the concurrent BFAR Director and Undersecretary for Fisheries, informed Mr. Francisco Torres, Jr., NSAP Prject Leader to request the needed budget to BFAR for its strengthening. Dr. Ulysses Montojo, OIC of the Policy, Planning and Extension Division was so much elated that the Meeting had been a success as the plans, programs, activities and budget of the Institute for CY 2018 had already been institutionalized. And citing the significance of these type of meeting towards the Institute's seamless operations, Director Drusila Esther E. Bayate, Interim Executive Director of the NFRDI and concurrently the Assistant Director for Technical Services of BFAR, assured that the GB Meeting will hold quarterly meetings regularly as planned.
